Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Star as India Crush Afghanistan by 8 Wickets
In a World Cup match on Wednesday, India beat Afghanistan by 8 runs. India won thanks to Rohit Sharma’s hundred (131 runs) and Virat Kohli’s fifty (55 runs).
Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain of Afghanistan, won the toss and chose to bat first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran got Afghanistan off to a good start, but India bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur quickly got rid of both of them.
Then, Afghanistan’s captain Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai put the team’s game back on track with a 121-run stand for the fourth wicket. India’s Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, quickly got rid of Shahidi and Omarzai to bowl Afghanistan out for 272 runs in 49.5 overs.
India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, got off to a great start by hitting 156 runs in 22.2 overs before being out. Kishan was out for 73 runs, but Rohit Sharma kept scoring runs like crazy and got to 100 in 63 balls.
Even though Rohit Sharma was out after 131 runs, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer led India to win with no more losses. The goal was reached in 35 overs, thanks to 55 runs from Kohli and 23 runs from Shreyas Iyer. Rohit Sharma got the Man of the Match award for his great hundred.
