Dak Prescott calls Cowboys’ Loss to 49ers “This Is the Most Humbling Game of My Career”
When the Dallas Cowboys lost two playoff games in a row to San Francisco on strange plays, their anger changed into shame.
The Cowboys were hoping to show what they could do against a fellow NFC rival in the 49ers, but they were dragged off the field almost right away.
The defense, which had been very weak for the first four weeks, was now fully open. It took more than a quarter for the offense to get even one first down. They also couldn’t move the ball or keep it safe.
The Cowboys lost to the 49ers 42–10 on Sunday night, which was the biggest loss in the history of this feud. This made people wonder if they are still a real threat to make it back to the Super Bowl for the first time in more than 25 years.
“It’s a punch in the gut, a kick in the butt, or any other word you want to use,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “They beat us all three times.”
In the first few plays of the game, San Francisco’s defense put pressure on Dak Prescott. The Cowboys (3-2) had three three-and-outs and Tony Pollard lost a fumble.
Prescott answered with a TD pass of 26 yards to KaVontae Turpin in the second quarter, which gave Dallas some hope. But in the second half, everything went wrong, and they lost by the biggest margin in 10 years and all time against San Francisco.
Midway through the third quarter, Brock Purdy’s third touchdown pass of the game gave San Francisco a 28–10 lead. Prescott then threw a long pass into double coverage on first down, which was picked off by Tashaun Gipson.
That led to another touchdown for the Niners. On the next two drives, Prescott threw an interception, giving him three in just six offensive plays.
“I didn’t see it coming,” Dak Prescott, the quarterback, said. “I gave it my all and got hit in the face.” It was embarrassing to lose to Arizona a few weeks ago. But I think this is the most humble game I’ve ever played. Before the game, I was honestly happy with how well we were prepared and everything else. But they beat us in every way.
Since the first game, San Francisco has won three in a row. As the 2021 season came to a close, the Niners lost a 23–17 wild-card game in Dallas because Prescott fumbled the ball and then couldn’t spike it in time for the last play.
Last season, the Cowboys lost again on the road in the divisional round, this time by a score of 19–12. The game ended on a play where running back Ezekiel Elliott was at center but had no chance of making a catch.
Most of the players for both teams watched most of the fourth quarter, so the end of the game wasn’t very exciting.
It was the worst loss for Dallas since they lost 49–17 to New Orleans in 2013. However, the Cowboys aren’t ready to give up on the Niners and are hoping for a repeat in January.
Star edge rusher Micah Parsons said, “We’re not that far away from them.” “I don’t think they’re that much better than us as a team.” We lost to ourselves, and we need to be better set up to make plays and do other things.
But from now on, we need to change things and get ready. There’s no doubt that they had our number and we didn’t have theirs. Tonight, they gave us their best shot. We can learn from this and be better in the playoffs.
